About Hand Letter Guide

Hand Letter Guide shows cursive letters the way a child or an adult learner needs to see them: big, on the same three lines used in handwriting class, with the path of the pen drawn out and a sheet to practice on.

The letter shapes are not drawn freehand. They come straight from the outlines of Playwrite US Trad, an openly licensed typeface modeled on traditional American school cursive, so the sizes and proportions on every page agree with each other. Where a page describes how the pen moves, that description follows a published handwriting manual, named and quoted on the page. Letters without such a source get the shapes and the practice sheet but no step-by-step text.

Cursive is taught in more than one model. If your school uses a different one, some capitals in particular will look different from ours; the lowercase letters usually match closely.

The site is free to use and does not sell anything. The practice sheets may be printed for home and classroom use.
